NLU Engine Overview

The Vestec NLU engine is designed for natural language call-steering and works as an add-on to 3rd party large vocabulary speech recognition engines. It significantly reduces time-to-market and increases return-on-investment for call-routing applications by reducing grammar development and maintenance costs while increasing their routing accuracy and call-completion rates.

We offer two NLU models: KE System and DE System. The former is designed for small number of routing destinations, does not require any training data, and generates a finite-state grammar. The latter is designed for large number of routing destinations, requires training data in the form of tagged transcriptions, and generates a statistical language model (SLM) grammar.

Our NLUs boast powerful attributes, including: (a) smaller training data set requirement; (b) full grammar transparency and manipulability; (c) finite-state and statistical grammars support; (d) comprehensive automated grammar tuning; (e) sophisticated contextual interpretation; (f) better handling of accented speakers; and (g) robust processing of out-of-grammar utterances.

The NLU engines are priced at a fraction of the cost of leading 3rd party large vocabulary speech engines. They can be integrated with all Nuance speech engines – such as, ASR, OSR, and v9 – and support all major spoken languages. We are currently working with leading Enterprise contact center platform vendors for marketing and deployment of our NLU engines.
